Loft insulation
Q. How much will i need?
This is best answered in two ways.
Simply measure your loft. If this is difficult for you to do, you can get an approximate measurement, by measuring the upstairs floor area of your home. Equate this to Sq/Metres (ie 3m x 2m is 6sq/m) each loft board is 0.48sq/m regardless of thickness.
We recommend a mix of both boards and rolls to get the full advantage of storage and insulation value.
To acheive this you can board a central area in the loft with 50mm boards and roll insulate the perimeter areas. See the picture here.
Its likely that your loft has 150mm roll insulation between the joists. If so simply install the 50mm boards around the central area on top of the joists, and finally overlay more 150mm roll insulation around the perimeter. This will give both the recommended energy rating for your loft and new storage space.
If your loft has no insulation, adding 150mm roll insulation between the joists should be your first application, then do as above.

Q. What size are the individual Styroloft boards?
1200mm x 400mm x18mm
1200mm x 400mm x 50mm
1200mm x 400mm x 80mm
1200mm x 400mm x 115mm
We supply four thicknesses, to enable you to create a storage space in your loft, but top up your loft insulation if necessary using different thicknesses.
If your application is based around storage only then 18mm boards will suffice, and provide some further insulation. If however you are aiming to increase your houses overall energy rating and reduce your houshold bills, then 50mm+ would be best.
The size and weight of all boards makes it very easy to fit through the loft hatch and install onto the joist with speed.

Q. How long will my order take?
We stock most products, but some orders that are made to order can take up to 7 days to deliver. We generally deliver by courier and sometimes on pallets depending on the size of your order.

Q. What type of fixing should I use?
Wood screws are fine. These are supplied with the boards. We recommend 4 screws per board. Some people actually install the boards with Velcro in case they wish to have rapid access to the joists.
If you already have loft rolls between the joists you can compress down the rolls when fixing the boards down.
Quite often users decide not to board all the way to the edge of the loftspace, they simply board the walkable or areas where storage is necessary, then place loft roll insulation around the perimeter area to top up the loft insulation.
The boards are designed to give a cold room storage are in the loft, and keep the heat in the main house.

Q. What type of Insulation can I add?
Mineral fibre rolls or insulation slabs can be added on top of the Styroloft panels.
