I'm pleased to give you a few comments on Styroloft boards.

The main advantage of the Styroloft panels from an installation point of view is lightness. I carried out the installation of 600sq.ft of loft single-handed in 3.5 days, which I doubt I could have done with conventional boards. The boards are also easier to cut than chipboard (and easier on saw blades).

Another plus-point is delivery - most of the main DIY outlets deliver most products, but they won't deliver loft boards. 600sq.ft of conventional loft boards won't fit in the average hatchback, never mind what they'd do to the suspension...

I can't say how well the insulation works as I installed the boards in a house we had just bought, so have no basis for comparison. The boards are installed over pre-existing loose-fill insulation material.

The ply finish to the boards gives a neat, smooth floor, making it easy to move around the assorted boxes of stuff that find their way into the typical loft.

Overall, a very satisfactory job.

Styroloft was used in our 4 bed detached house. The loft clearly needed attention as
1.       Insufficient existing insulation fitted along and below the rafters
2.       Only partly boarded with different types of chipboard – dusty and poor insulation.
3.       Untidy and unsafe.
I took the following action
·         Installed strip lighting so that I could see properly
·         In the outer 2 isles fitted approx 30cm of fibre across the rafters to improve insulation
·         Insulated all exposed pipes
·         Fitted Styroloft board along the whole central isle, retaining the existing insulation that ran parallel between the rafters.
Initially I only boarded 60% of the central isle, but once my wife had seen the results she soon persuaded me to purchase more boards to complete the central area. This now provides a large area to walk along, with an area for storage. The finished plywood surface looks attractive and is easy to keep clean and tidy.
The boards were easy to cut to size (where required). However they are designed to fit across rafters that are 1.2m apart, some rafters were slightly further apart and this required some ingenuity, also screws had to be positioned right at the edge of the boards in order to hit the rafter which was tricky. Perhaps you could come up with an installation guide to help overcome these problems, there may be a case for some optional fittings that could be developed and supplied at extra cost?
Overall I am delighted with the result. Insulation is clearly improved as is the overall appearance of the loft. I no longer dread working in the loft. Since fitting, I have yet to see any other product that would do the job better.

I used the product to board and insulate my loft, I used local builder installed it for me, I only boarded the middle area of my loft, where there is sufficient height to stand comfortably, the installer seemed to find it easy enough to fit - and it certainly didn't take long.  My intention was to provide storage, improve insulation, and provide a platform for continuous ventilation and heat recovery system- next months job! I had 100mm loft roll insulation between the joists an Styroloft seemed to be a simple answer to my three requirements, the only alternative being cross joists with insulation between, and T & G flooring, which would have reduced headroom, taken longer to install, but possibly at less cost. I think Styroloft could be cheaper and if so I would probably have bought more. Overall, Styroloft is a good product, easy to use and well presented. It is a little pricey, but I hope to have reduced domestic bills to compensate.

Chris, I recently ordered some Styroloft from your company and was extremely pleased with both the product and the service. The board was delivered before the expected date which was a real bonus, unfortunately, I wasn't at home when the driver delivered; however, both the driver and your staff excelled themselves in re-arranging the delivery for later that day.The floor is now laid and I am impressed with the quality of the product and the ease in which it can be laid. Congratulations on a excellent product and service and well done to all of the staff that made the delivery happen on the day.
Big Thanks M Andrews.

Dialogue from a recent customer Review

What did you use the product for?
I covered the floor of the loft.

Did you install the product or have someone do it for you (joiner etc.)?
I did it myself.

Did you board out all your loft or part?
I covered every part I could reach. Some parts were not accessible.

How did you find it to install?
Very easy.

Has it lived up to your expectations?
Our loft is very shallow (330mm) and is not used to walk on or for significant storage. My reason for using Styroloft was adequate strength for a person to move about on it (lying down) with the advantage of light weight and some insulation performance.

Did you use the PDF to install the product?
Not significantly.

Have you noticed a difference in your domestic bills and the warmth of your home?
Too soon to tell and with 18mm Styrofoam I do not expect to see a big difference.

Did you hit any snags while installing?
Slight variations in joist straightness gave rise to small lips between boards. Not a significant problem.

Were your initial intentions to simply board your loft or to insulate as well?
Both, to some degree.

Did you buy loft rolls at the same time? Which supplier?
No.

Did your loft have existing insulation between the joists?
The loft already had 100mm fibreglass wool insulation.

What was the driving force behind buying Styroloft?
A desire to be able to move about in the loft in a way not possible over the ceiling joists and to provide additional insulation as a bonus.

Do you feel you would be comfortable recommending the product?
Yes.

Overall how satisfied were you with the product on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being terrible – 10 being fantastic)?
9.

And lastly do you think the product is good value for money
Yes.
